How an electronic air cleaner works
The air in your home circulates through your heating or cooling system, carrying millions of airborne particles through the ductwork. When this air goes through an electronic air cleaner, the prefilter traps the majority of the large particles. The smaller particles continue to pass through the prefilter and receive a positive electrical charge. Collector plates, which carry a negative charge, attract these small particles like magnets, holding them until they're washed off. Cleaner, filtered air is then circulated throughout your home. The 1” filter that comes with your system is intended to protect your system but doesn’t do much to clean the smaller particles in the air.

The benefits of cleaner air
Particles in the air often aggravate conditions like allergies and asthma. With an electronic air cleaner, your heating and cooling system does more than circulate air-it actually works to clean it. A system that includes an electronic air cleaner can remove up to 95% of unwanted pollutants from the air passing through it, such as:

  • Dust
  • Pollen
  • Animal hair and dander
  • Dust mites
  • Lint
  • Smoke
  • Cooking grease
  • Some bacteria

Also, since an air cleaner draws the particles out of the air, your home’s interior surfaces, such as wallpaper and paint, stay cleaner longer, helping prevent the kind of particle build up that can cause reactions in family members with allergies or asthma.

Efficient operation
Adding a Trane air cleaner to your central cooling and heating system can make an enormous difference in the indoor air quality of your home while using less energy than a 40-watt bulb.

Filter effectiveness ratios
As the table below shows, an electronic air cleaner is the most effective way to reduce potentially harmful particulate matter in your home.
